Random Association

Random association is about generating idea. Its a conflict where the left and right brain has to function. Idea start to generate and mutation happen.

Class Activities.

The Situation/Problem : How to make a person stop smoking in 6 months time.
Random Word : Traffic Light
Association 1 : Metal - Make it tough to smoke
Association 2 : Dirty - Create a "yucky" effect to the cigaratte
Association 3 : Sign - Create a weird and scary sign

This picture explain about the random association that happen between the traffic light and cigarette.

Juxtaposition and Class activities

This is the 1st class exercise.Where I have to match the words at the left side and the words at the right side. Then after matching the words, i write short simple sentence and illustrate it.

This is the second exercise, where we illustrate the words we combine, and explain the meaning of the words through picture. The left image is Ice Water, the middle image is Dog Spider and the right image is Oil Head.

This is the 3rd exercise, where I show how merges go wrong.Even though the merges of elephant and cat can be so weird and impossible but still it can look good and it can still survive.

This is also the 3rd exercise where i express life through candle, happiness through kitten, love through chili and pain through ice cream.

Candle - Symbol of life
Life is like a candle, once you lit it up and the wind blow the light it will dim. But when there's no wind it will be very bright, same goes to our life. When you face a problem you'll be sad and you're days will be dim, but once you don't face any problem, you'll be happy and you're days will be bright.

Kitten - Happiness
Kitten is like happiness, when you see it you'll be happy, once you play with it you'll be happy. It bring happiness to our life

Chili - Love
Chili is spicy, it can sometime make us cry.But without chili, food become tasteless.Just like love, if there is no sadness and no crying, it will be boring.

Ice Cream - Pain
Ice cream is pain, although it tends to give you pleasure it can also cause you pain. When you decide to swallow it fast it will cause you brain freeze and even if you too keep it in you mouth for quite sometime, you can feel the pain creeping in your mouth.

Juxtaposition 2

Juxtaposition Part 2

In this part of the topic I will still discuss about Juxtaposition but more details are put into it. In juxtaposition, the change of meaning will automatically happen, from something that is familiar to something that is less familiar. And this where the action between left brain and right brain take place.

During the lecture, the lecturer talk about Analogy.Analogy is branches to two different topic, that is Metaphor and Simile which links to Juxtaposition.

What is Metaphor:
A metaphor is when something is use to represent something else.If two ideas are compared, and there are obvious similarities between them, that is not consider as metaphor.Metaphor is usually created when two different thought are joined together in a creative ways.Usually metaphor don't use as or like.
An example of metaphor :
"Life is a journey" quoted from English forum

What is Simile:
Similes use as or like

In juxtaposition, there are two types of analogies:
1. Logical Analogies
2. Affective Analogies

1. Logical Analogies
When similarities are used in design, function or structure which it can connect back to the subject. This is what we call logical analogies.
Example: "the comparison of the whale and a submarine, where both can dive to great depths but still need to surface for air." Quoted from lecturer's notes.

2. Affective Analogies
To resemble an emotion. As an example, animal are used to represent or to explain a certain characteristic of a person. It is mostly use in a conversation between two or more person.
Example: "he is like a pig (because he is lazy)." Quoted from lecturer's notes.
